Hello,
the recent upgrade of some configure scripts obviously causes problems on
Alphas: "arch" is set to "none", because the new scripts report $host as
alphaev5-dec-osf4.0e
which does not match any of the cases in "configure". The easy fix would
be to let the entries for the Alpha match "alpha*-...".

Right. It's fixed in the CVS version. Thanks for reporting the problem.
I upgraded config.guess/config.sub to the latest versions from the
FSF, in the hope that it would recognize most recent configurations,
but in the process some of the "architecture" names changed... Hope
there are not too many bugs of this form lurking around.
