(Sorry, but there was no product version to report this against, so I picked the closest one.)
This is on an install done on ocaml 4.02.0+trunk, on a fresh install via opam on ubuntu. The version is 1.15. When I try to launch utop on the command line, I get this:

? Welcome to utop version 1.15 (using OCaml version 4.02.1+dev0-2014-08-29)! ?
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Type #utop_help for help about using utop.

Ugh. After doing having done an "opam switch", I can't replicate it either. I have no idea where the behavior is coming from, but without the ability to replicate it, I suppose this issue should be closed. Sorry for the noise.
