I've been looking a > little bit at SAC I'd recommend also taking a look at SISAL (http://www.llnl.gov/sisal/). I think both SAC and SISAL are important not only because they are functional languages, but also because they define a syntax that is quite natural for numerical applications without sacrificing their functional foundations.
